one thing that instantly came into my mind when thinking about how our school could be improved was basically an idea of having a part of the school solely devoted to relaxation and getting away from the school's harsh interior. whenever i come to school i always see so many students constantly on their computers at the tables for hours and hours and they basically never get up to stretch or even rest, even though they are sat in front of a computer. also, the lighting and the interior design of ocad is quite harsh, and doesn't really create a relaxing or easygoing mood for students. additionally, all the various wires and plugs and things, especially in the ED and ID areas, add to the sterility of the building - i somtimes see students sleeping in such places which is very unhealthy as its not good for the body to rest amongst electricity and electrical outlets/products for a long period of time.
my design process teacher last year vaguely told us about how ocad needs a room where students could just rest, sleep and get away from the harsh reality of ocad. i think a small, enclosed area of the school, such as one of the presentation rooms that no one ever seems to use, could be redone into such a space, with cushions and muted colours and such, so students could go there just to catch up on some rest since school is so stressful. also, i recently found out that the scant physical activities/classes that ocad offer, such as dance class or yoga, are basically held in any random room that's available. this space could also be used for such purposes which i think would definitely promote student health and wellbeing at ocad. if students see that there's a room just to relax in and where people do such fun things as latin dancing and yoga, they would definitely take more of an interest in such an underlooked area of ocad life.
